Anyone in the world

Power to Change runs quarterly SHIFTm2M Best Practice Zooms. These interactive gatherings bring pastors and ministry leaders together to learn from each other as they seek to create environments where disciplemaking can flourish.

At our most recent Zoom, Paul Crothers from New Peninsula Baptist Church in Victoria shared practical steps his team have taken to embed disciplemaking frameworks into the life of their church.

At New Peninsula Baptist Church in Victoria, the principles taught through SHIFTm2M Training are gradually shaping the life of the church in practical ways.

Senior Pastor Paul Crothers says the journey has been developing over many years.

Paul first encountered early disciplemaking ideas as a young volunteer youth leader. But the conviction deepened later in his pastoral ministry. After more than a decade leading another church, he took time between roles to pray and reflect on what he had learned.

During that season, one idea kept coming back to him: not just discipleship, but disciplemaking.

“I sensed God leading me to think beyond helping people grow in faith,” Paul says. “The question was how we could see multiplication. How do we see disciples making disciples?”

When Paul began leading New Peninsula Baptist Church in the middle of COVID lockdowns, the first year was focused on helping the church navigate a difficult season. But in 2022 he began exploring frameworks that could help the church move toward a disciplemaking culture.

After considering several options, the leadership team chose to engage with SHIFTm2M Training. The entire ministry staff team went through the nine days together.

One decision shaped the way they approached it.

“This wasn’t going to be the flavour of the year,” Paul told the team. “This is the next 15 years for our church.”

Rather than rushing to implement changes, the team took time to reflect before applying what they had learned. Over the past two years, Paul describes their journey using three words: realign, remodel and renew.

Realigning around disciplemaking

Before SHIFTm2M, the church was already doing many good things. But ministries were not always aligned around a common disciplemaking pathway.

SHIFT helped the leadership team develop a shared framework. All ministry leaders now set goals using the five stages of the disciplemaking journey: Connect, Win, Build, Train and Send.

Using the same framework across ministries has helped the team focus on what matters most and let go of activities that do not contribute to their disciplemaking vision.

Remodelling ministries for balance

The next step was to evaluate every ministry through the disciplemaking lens.

In many cases, ministries were strong in one or two areas but missing others. For example, the youth ministry had strong connection points but little intentional evangelism and no pathway for training and sending students.

The program was redesigned so young people would not only connect and grow in faith, but also learn to share the gospel and disciple others Similar adjustments have been made across many ministries in the church.

Renewing pathways for new believers

One of the biggest discoveries came when the team examined how the church helped new believers grow Although the church had many long standing life groups, most were not designed to welcome people new to faith.

In response, the church introduced new pathways. A short Head, Heart and Hands course helps people understand that following Jesus involves both personal transformation and everyday mission. They also developed a three-week Exploring Faith group for people curious about Christianity. At the end of the course, participants are invited to continue meeting together.

In the first group, most participants chose to continue. Within a year, people who were not previously part of the church were being equipped for possible leadership roles. For Paul, that is a sign that the culture is beginning to shift.

“It’s not about choosing between traditional church and new models,” he says. “It’s about doing whatever helps the Kingdom grow through disciplemaking and multiplication.”

The story at New Peninsula Baptist Church is still unfolding. But it offers a glimpse of what can happen when a church commits to the long journey of cultivating a disciplemaking culture.

Anyone in the world

Hi Everyone,

As we step into Holy Week, we’re invited again into the tension of Easter… the darkness of Good Friday and the unshakable hope of resurrection Sunday.

For a long time, I struggled with why we call it “Good” Friday. It feels anything but good. It’s raw, painful, unjust.
And yet… it’s good because Jesus chose obedience. He listened to the Holy Spirit and gave His life so that we could be forgiven—past, present, and future.

And then—three days later—everything changed.

  • Hope broke through.
  • Life defeated death.

And that same Spirit that raised Jesus is alive and available to us today.

💨 What if we actually lived like that was true?

💨 What if we actually lived like that was true?

If I’m honest, the Holy Spirit has often felt like the hardest part of God to understand… but at the same time, the most personal.

Because when I slow down and pay attention, I start to notice Him everywhere:

  • In the nudge to check in on someone
  • In the peace when making a tough decision
  • In those “coincidences” that feel a little too perfect

Like the time I dropped muffins to a friend—no idea what she was going through—and it turned out she was having one of the hardest days of her life. That simple act made her feel deeply seen and loved.

That’s the Holy Spirit at work.

🎯 Your Easter Challenge (simple, but powerful)

Video

This week, don’t just rush through Easter—lean in.

👉 Slow down
👉 Listen
👉 Respond

Try this simple practice:

🌬️ Spiritual Breathing

Exhale: Confess anything weighing on your heart
Inhale: Invite the Holy Spirit to fill and lead you

Do it in the car. On a walk. Between meetings. Before a conversation.

Then—this is key—act on what you sense He’s prompting you to do.

💬 Take a step (don’t overthink it)

What might the Holy Spirit be nudging you toward right now?

  • Send that message
  • Drop off those muffins ☺️
  • Pray with a friend
  • Ask a deeper question
  • Share a small part of your story

👉 Pick one person from your “daisy” and take one intentional step this week.

📖 A promise to hold onto

Jesus said:

“Whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these…” (John 14:12)

That’s not just for the early disciples. That’s for you.

The Holy Spirit isn’t a bonus feature of faith—He’s central to living the MyFriends Lifestyle.

✍️ Let’s build a culture of stories

Stories are where this all comes alive.

Jesus used them. And they still carry power today.

If you’re leading MyFriends (or even just living it), here’s your challenge:

👉 Start capturing your stories

  • Jot down who you’re praying for
  • Record what you sense God prompting
  • Note conversations, prayers, and moments

👉 Then share them

  • With your group
  • In your church
  • In your training
  • With your friends

Your story might be the spark that helps someone else take their first step.

🙌 Facilitator’s Corner (quick nudge)

Want your MyFriends training to go from good to great?

👉 Don’t just teach the content—live it and tell it.

Your real-life, messy, faith-filled stories will connect far more than polished theory ever could.

🙏 A simple prayer to carry with you

Lord Jesus, I choose You as the centre of my life.
Holy Spirit, fill me and lead me today.
Teach me to love and live like Jesus.
I will listen, obey, and follow—anytime, anywhere, at any cost.
I am Yours. Amen.

👣 One last step…

Don’t let this just be another thing you read.

👉 Pause right now.
👉 Ask: “Holy Spirit, what are You inviting me into today?”
👉 And then… do it.

And hey—I’d genuinely love to hear what happens. Shoot me a message or share in the Facebook group so we can encourage each other.

Let’s live this out together.
